Physical and Psycho-social Rehabilitation

This is the subjecting of the disabled soldiers to various rehabilitation processes according to disability:

Disability of Limbs

• Physiotherapy and provision of orthopedic devices such as prosthetics, orthotics, corsets, and orthopedic boots, as well as assistive devices like crutches and wheelchairs.
• AMA Project: An orthopedic workshop project run by Africa Medical Alliance (AMA), a South African company. The building complex and installation of all equipment have been completed, and only raw materials are awaited.

Impairment of Vision and Hearing

• Training in practical life skills like Braille and Sign Language at Kyambogo University School of Special Needs under Exercise Giving Hope.
• Provision of assistive devices such as spectacles and white cane sticks for the totally blind, and hearing aids for the deaf.
• Counseling: An integral part of the rehabilitation process that helps the disabled psychologically, providing them with hope and a sense of usefulness in society. Social workers play an effective role in this process.
• Medical Assessment: There is regular medical assessment of every individual disabled soldier to determine the degree of disability and extent of rehabilitation needed.
